Lots of weird looking characters, not least the guy on the left.
The party was held on the 24th of June. As usual it was very wet, water gun fights, water slides and of course the water balloon fight with Sensei Moran. And of course hotdogs and a lot of very “healthy” treats. From the noise level, I am confident that a good time was had by all.
Pictures from the event can be seen under the Summer party tab.
The kobudo group seems to be ticking along nicely. It seems most time I attend a class there are multiple guys (and girls) that are swinging various implements about.
The only set time for kobudo instruction is still Friday night, but if you are interested, speak to anyone of them, and I am sure they will get you into the fold.
Especially George, but then he is apparently the treasurer and are looking for fees.
Not sure if you will meet the guys in the picture though, but you never know.
The Chito Ryu Championship was held in Whitby on May 3, and Higashi had several competitors there. We have as yet not got the official results, but as best we can piece together, mostly by the efforts of Alesha, the following are the placements of our students:
Sasha 2nd in kata, Joel 1st kumite, Mark 1st kata and 2nd kumite, Keisha 3rd kata, Alesha 2nd team kata, 3rd kata and 4th kumite, James 1st kata and 3rd kumite, Eirik 1st kumite and 3rd kata, Jonathan 2nd kata and 4th kumite, Arianna 3rd kumite, Jeanew 1st kata and 2nd kumite, Alison 2nd team kumite, JJ 2nd team kata.
If anybody has been missed, please let me know and we will amend the list.
The kid’s Christmas party was held at the dojo on December 22. This year we had pizza for all, as well as cookies, pop and various cakes. Sensei Moran and his helpers ran a series of “competitions” and games and as far as I could see everybody had a great time. Some pictures of the festivities can be seen at the Christmas Party tab. Have a look and see if you can see yourself in any of them.
The last post was about the 3 oldest members of the dojo, and now here is a picture of 3 of the youngest students. I cannot say for sure if they are the absolute youngest, but they certainly are close. They are all five years old, so they have a little distance to go to reach the level of the other 3.
Evelyn,Sasha and Rita are all enjoying the beginners classes, and making great progress.
Here is a shot of my three favourite guys in the dojo. They are all nice guys, but the my thing is that they are all older than me. The average age of Tak, George and Jack starts with an 8, and while I am not sure what the second number would be, it is larger than zero. They are an inspiration to all that attends. Keep it up guys.
A yudansha clinic conducted by Sensei Higashi was held at the dojo on Sunday December 7th. It was well attended, both by senior grades as well as us normal people, and also a fair number of brown belts. Sensei went over tehodoki as well as several katas. It was a very enjoyable morning, Picture shows you the gang that was there.
